Choosing the right instructor for your course of lessons is most important; Please do not simply phone around for the cheapest quote. Don't be fooled by silly gimmicks such as 'first lesson free' etc, you only get what you pay for.

Ask your friends and family who they learnt with and follow up their recommendations.

If you are paying someone to teach you to drive, they must be approved and registered with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). In order to prove their credibility they must display a GREEN coloured certificate on the windscreen of the car while teaching you.

Most multi car driving schools use trainee instructors and charge the same rate per lesson as you would expect to pay with a fully qualified instructor, they must also display a certificate on the windscreen but the colour of the certificate will be PINK.
